Mayapur–Pipalkoti Tunnel Accident: Body of one missing worker recovered, search for two others continues

CHAMOLI, August 15, 2026.
The relief and rescue operation is continuing in the THDC tunnel at Mayapur (Pipalkoti) following the accident that occurred on August 13. During the rescue operation, the body of one more missing worker has been recovered, while the search for two other missing workers in the tunnel is still underway.
An SDRF team, led by Inspector Karan Singh, is carrying out an intensive search and rescue operation inside the tunnel. During the operation, the SDRF team, in coordination with NDRF, District Police, administration and other concerned agencies, is conducting detailed searches at probable locations inside the tunnel with the help of technical resources and necessary equipment.
Work to drain the water present inside the tunnel is also being carried out swiftly. For this, suction pumps and other necessary equipment are being used to facilitate the movement of rescue teams and to reach probable locations to search for the missing workers.
SDRF teams, in coordination with other rescue agencies, are conducting an intensive search operation at all possible locations inside the tunnel. Giving top priority to finding the two missing workers, the SDRF rescue team is continuing the operation with full diligence, and every possible effort is being made to reach the workers.
