UKD questions Rapido’s verification process, submits memorandum to SSP regarding women’s safety

A deputation of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal met the senior superintendent of Police Dehradun Pramendra Dobal and presented him a memorandum expressing serious concern over non identification of the Rapido drivers adequately demanding their immediate checks of credentials and backgrounds before giving them the license to accord the customers ( men, women) their service of transportation within the state capital and elsewhere.
The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) has expressed serious concern about the functioning of Rapido, an online bike taxi platform operating in the state. The party says that the platform’s driver registration and verification process is grossly lax, putting the safety of women and civilians at risk.
The central General Secretary Meenakshi Ghildiyal expressed her apprehension that at present a large number of women and common people are using Rapido service, but due to the very weak driver verification process, people with criminal tendencies can also easily join this platform.
The group alleged that there have been previous instances of harassment, abuse, theft, and other criminal activities by Rapido drivers.
In some instances, the UKD also expressed concern that parcel delivery services could encourage illegal activities, posing a serious threat to law and order.
Organization General Secretary Naina Lakhera, Women President Major Santosh Bhandari, Uttarapanth Bahuguna, Ravindra Mamgain, Kalpana Bijalwan, Sunil Mandolia, Girish Kothari etc. were present.
