It was in the history of Nepal for the very first time that the former prime ministers and the ministers were physically attacked and went into hiding immensely terrorised.

Even the former prime minister Mr. Jhala’s house was badly burnt and his wife succumbed to more than sixty percent injurirs of extensive burns in the hospital.

The upsurge of the protestors in Nepal consisted mainly of the young elements led by Kathmandu young mayor Balendu Shah, former CEO of Nepal Electricity authority Mr. Ghising , Om Prakash Aryal and a few others.

Nepal’s history of power politics and the monarch dynasty ruling for over 240 years have been full of political and people’s uprising , violence and change of governments surreptitiously.

During the seventeen years of rule and return of Democracy after the former king announced democratic elections in Nepal , there had been fourteen prime ministers during the seventeen years rule and the mutual understanding between the mainstream political parties and leaders led to power being circulated among the Congress leaders and the Communists.

After the national movement in Nepal in 1990 the Kingdom of Nepal became a constitutional monarchy. However, this was disturbed and disrupted in 2005 due to coup d’etat by King Gyanendra. The people of Nepal who were fed up with monarchy started another Jana Andolan in 2006 and as a result the monarchy was demolished in the year 2008 in the month of May with first constitutional assembly being formed and the country declared as the Federal Parliamentary republic.

The present constitution of Nepal came into existence in 2015 when K.P. Sharma Oli became the prime minister of Nepal.

During the last seventeen years the PMs who ruled Nepal were Lokendra Bahadur Thapa, Surya Bahadur Thapa, Sher Bhadur Deopa, ( 2005), Girija Prasad Koirala, ( second time PM) , Pushpa Kumar Dahal, ( Maoist) , ( 2008-9) , Madhav Kumar Nepal, ( 2009 -2011), Jhalanath Khanal, ( 2011 ) , Baburam Bhattacharya, (2011 to 2013), Khil Raj Regmi, ( 2013, 2014), Sushila Koirala, ( 2015-2016), Pushp Kamal Dahal, 2016-17, Sher Bahadur Deupa, ( 2017 to 2018) fourth time, KP Sharma Oli secund time from 2018 to 2021, Sher Bahadur Deupa ( 5 th time) (2021 – 2022), Pushp Kamal( Maoist) 3 rd time from December 2022 to July 2024, K.P.Sharma Oli, ( 4 th time, from 15 July 2024 to 9 September 2025.

After the present uprising the first woman former chief justice of Nepal Sushila Karki was sworn in as the first woman PM of Nepal in a meeting with the president, Army chief of Nepal , K.P. Sharma “Oli’ and the movement for change in Nepal, leaders.

She was the unanimous choice of the youth leaders and not only was she a woman of impeccable integrity but was strict against corruption and nepotism while she was the Supreme Court CJ.

The uprising on massive scale though for only two days witnessed massive arson, loot and burning of several official buildings including residence of former PMs, ministers and parliament.

The frustration against the youths of Nepal was boiling for several months after they noticed that corruption at the higher echelon of power has been massive with the nepo kids of the former PMs and ministers leading a luxurious life style and conducting foreign tours , moving on expensive luxury cars and partying, spending money exorbitantly.

The rise of the wide gap between the rich and the poor with rich becoming ultra rich and poor being extremely poor is also one of the major reasons for instability in Nepal.

Though news analysts say that the major reason behind the trigger was when the K.P.Sharma Oli Government banned the entire social media. After the ban of social media and several other options, the already annoyed, angered and frustrated youths of Nepal badly disenchanted due to ” nepo kids” , massive unemployment and corruption from the top to bottom started the uprising / movement to oust the Oli Government forthwith including teaching the politicians a befitting lesson.

The trigger was so widespread that the former PMs and present ministers were hurt, beaten and made to run in torn clothes, profusely bleeding with their luxurious houses fully burnt.

However, the then prime minister K.P. Sharma Oli went into hiding as the then PM of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina of Awami League went into hiding in India, New Delhi with the help of their respective ARMIES.

THE closest friend of India – Nepal has witnessed a pro China tilt in foreign policy during the last seventeen years though India always sided with Nepal helping it financially and in terms of its development considered to be the only ancient Hindu state as its true and trusted ally.

The interim prime minister who has promised to conduct elections in Nepal within the next six months Mrs Sushila Karki has been highly appreciative of India and Indian leadership, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reciprocating nicely, congratulating the new interim PM hoping to bring peace, prosperity and trust between both the nations.

There are also reports that despite the trigger due to ban on social media , the biggest super power United States also allegedly played a role in instigating the uprising in Nepal with several untoward and criminal elements filtering in the protest demonstrations on mass scale.

This was so because of Nepal’s tilt towards China who is an ardent rival of the US and subsequent visits of Nepal PMs to China on several occasions.

Besides the former PMs and ministers being thrashed and their properties burnt , the protestors also attacked and sent back the Indian journalists and several foreign scribes with several videos going viral on social media.

The anger of the youths that led to the uprising couldn’t predict what will be the political future of Nepal and the model of government formation.

The present likely constitution of the interim government will not take any incumbent from the main stream political parties which has been ruling after the end of monarchy in Nepal two decades ago reveal sources bringing 14 PMs in seventeen years.

It may be recalled that the rule during the last seventeen years in Nepal was more like a mutual arrangement between the communist, Congress and other political outfits who rather proved to be opportunists than to be sincere towards ruling Nepal ethically and transparently accumulating massive wealth and their nepo kids spending lavishly while the general masses of Nepal leading the substandard life style.
.

The instability in Nepal’s politics with opportunism taking the front seat, compromising the ideologies with massive corruption at the peak for attaining political power including massive unemployment and poverty adversely affecting the majority of the population have also led to the uprising in Nepal said political analysts.

Kindly recall that earlier to Nepal, Srilanka and Bangladesh witnessed upsurge in anti government movements and uprising that compelled the Prime ministers, ministers and the ruling political leaders to run away from their countries and seek refuge abroad with their properties being destroyed , burnt and family members hurt.

The arson and looting during these uprisings have been tremendous with uncontrolled mobs looting the state’s property and articles like expensive items conveniently as if there is total anarchy and chaos and this is what has happened in Nepal which led to the massive financial and political stability taking the country several years back in terms of progress, prosperity and well being of its populace.
