Babul Supriyo to quit active politics. Decision taken after shunting him out of union cabinet

The two term minister in union cabinet and earlier a prominent Bollywood singer Babul Supriyo has announced that he is quitting active politics.

He revealed about his decision through his Facebook post today written in Bengali few English words as well.

He has categorically said that yes there may be to an extent a link on my likely resignation as MP from Asansol and quitting active politics to my ouster from union cabinet but not entirely, though he will continue to do the social work.

Babul Supriyo has taken this hard decision after discussing the matter with family and close friends.

A sitting MP from Asansol for the second time Babul Supriyo was earlier Prime minister Narendra Modi’s all time favourite but was removed in the recent cabinet rejig, especially after the saffron party losing the West Bengal Assembly elections, adversely at the hands of TMC and its chief n West Bengal’s firebrand leader n CM Mamata Bannerjee, despite Babul doing his best to take on the TMC.

He himself resigned from Tollygunj assembly seat from where he had contested recently despite being a sitting MP from Asansol and union minister.

Primarily a popular Bollywood singer who joined active politics and inducted by prime minister Narendra Modi in his cabinet as state union minister of Urban Development in 2014, Babul Supriyo was reinducted in union cabinet in 2019 but removed recently.

This probably annoyed him badly compelling to take this unusual decision of not only resigning as Lok Sabha MP from Asansol but also quitting active politics, though he said that he was and will be in BJP always in future and continue with his social work.

His resignation undoubtedly is a big blow to the saffron party.

He also clarified that he is not joining any other political party as he has not been approached by either TMC, Congress, CPI ( M).

I am a player of the team. Always supported a team, #Mohan Bagan, only party, BJP West Bengal, that’s it!!! I am finally going. I stayed for some time, Consoled myself but my heart got broken to an extent wrote Babul in his FB post.

Speaking to media Babul Supriyo said that there is lot of difference between the BJP of 2014 and BJP of 2019 in the context of West Bengal, as earlier he was the only one for BJP and today it is a major opposition party in West Bengal.

He did say about his differences with the state BJP but hoped that the saffron party will further be strengthened in the state covering a long distance.

In his Facebook post in Bengali he wrote that he did had differences with the state BJP unit which are appearing publicly. I am also responsible for it to some extent he wrote. There are some leaders who are also responsible to take the party towards anarchism in the state though I don’t want to name them, but due to the non agreement of state party unit and national leaders the party is suffering adversely. I am therefore quitting as Asansol MP while expressing my gratitude to the electorates for their affection and love throughout, wrote Babul Supriyo.

He thanked the Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP chief Nadda for having showered their affection on him further adding that he can’t forget them ever.
