24 hours strike by all the doctors of all government hospitals in India to protest against the brutal raie and murder of a nurse in a KOLKATA govt hospital

The doctors in all the hospitals of the country have gone on the 24 hours hunger strike to express their protests strongly condemning the brutal murder after obnoxious rape of a 31 year old trainee doctor in Kolkata’s R.G.Kar private medical College and hospital. The doctors at the pan India level have gone on strike for twenty fours hours on the call given by the Indian Medical Association.

In Patna Medical College hundreds of doctors have protested holding the signed banner condemning this most brutal murder cum rape demanding justice for the victim.

It may be recalled that the Kolkatta High Court has already recommended this case to the premier investigating agency of the country – CBI for thorough, impartial and transparent investigation to stringently punish the guilty with majority of the doctors demanding capital punishment to the culprit.

The Kolkata High Court has while handing over this case to the India’s premier agency CBI has termed it as the rarest of the rare case.

There have been several protests demonstrations in various parts of Bengal also demanding death to the culprits and bringing the case for trial under fast track court.

The Indian Medical Association has while giving the call for nationwide strike, has said that the essential and casualty medical services will not be affected.

In a press statement the IMA said the RG Kar incident has brought to the fore two dimensions of violence in the hospital.

One a crime on barbaric scale due to the lack of safe spaces for women and the hooliganism that is unleashed due to the lack of the organised security protocol.

The crime and vandalism have shocked the conscience of the nation. Today both the medical fraternity and the nation are the victims said the IMA statement.

Among four of its major demands the IMA statement signed by its president Dr. Asokan and Secretary general Anil Kumar J.Nayak demanded meticulous and professional investigation of the crime in the time frame including rendering of due justice.

It also demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits of this brutal crimes including adequate financial compensation to the bereaved family of the deceased terming it as appropriate and dignified compensation commensurate with the cruelty inflicted.

IMA has declared 24 hours withdrawal of services by all the modern medicine doctors of the country irrespective of the sector and place of work. The emergency and casualty services will function as usual said the IMA statement.
