BJP candidates losing from two assembly by-elections in Uttarakhand makes CM Dhami’s political position awry ! Will the State see change in leadership in future ?

The Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s political standing has come under questioning after the ruling BJP lost from both the seats of Badrinath and Mangalore being defeated in the by-elections at the hands of Congress party.

The chief minister of Uttarakhand is being held directly or indirectly responsible for both these defeats because it was under his direct leadership that these by-elections were held with no speeches of any central leadership as prime minister n other top leaders usually don’t campaign in assembly by-elections. The Uttarakhand BJP chief Mahendra Bhatt’s position too has been jeopardised badly.

But if we see the contrast in Himachal Pradesh, out of three assembly by-elections there, the ruling party Congress under the leadership of the present CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has won the two seats out of three and in West Bengal under the firebrand chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the TMC has won on all the four seats. While, in the above two cases of Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Mamata Banerjee the leadership of both the CM’s in their states seems to have been intact, rather on the elevation, winning on all seats except one, in Uttarakhand all the seats were lost at the hands of Congress unambiguously indicating the the leadership charisma of the state CM Pushkar Singh Dhami is diminishing badly.

His days seem to be numbered.

However, if we see the results of the parliamentary elections in Uttarakhand it has definitely done excellently well by winning all the five seats for the third time which is in itself and outstanding record but the credit for these victories can’t be given to Pushkar Singh Dhami as PM Narendra Modi, union minister of home Amit Shah, union defence minister Rajnath Singh , national BJP chief J.P.Nadda etc were extremely busy in repeated campaigning in this Himalayan state.

Moreover, the Ram Mandir issue, free ration distribution, Rs 6000 annually to farmers and Uniform Civil Code issues also impacted the voters as people have voted for charismatic Modi than to BJP or Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Political analysts pose a pertinent question : Had people been still inclined towards the BJP they should have voted en masse to the saffron party candidates this time as well in Badrinath and Mangalore constituencies , but they didn’t do so obviously expressing their disenchantment towards the saffron party for engineering defection of the sitting Congress MLA Rajendra Bhandari to BJP at the behest of Pauri Garhwal MP Anil Baluni and bringing from Haryana , an outsider Mining fellow to Mangalore namely Kartar Singh Bhadana.

Moreover, while they are fed up with inflation and polarisation in the name of religion, they aren’t impacted by UCC as well desperately wanting a change of government in the state reveal political analysts and the loss from these two constituencies is a confirm indication that a wave of BJP change has commenced in Uttarakhand and the CM’s position is indeed in jeopardy.

It may be recalled that out of 13 by-elections in seven states in the country, the I.N.D.I.A conglomerate has won on ten seats and BJP only two with AAP and DMK winning one seat each in TN n Punjab. An independent candidate has won on a single seat.

BELOW is the Uttarakhand BJP president n Rajya Sabha MP, Mahendra Bhatt who has been defeated from Badrinath earlier too. He was the MLA from here. The present defeat of the former Congress MLA now in BJP Rajendra Singh Bhandari is his ( Bhatt’s) personal defeat as being the ex MLA from Badrinath, now Rajya Sabha MP too apart from being the State chief , his credibility is completely at stake, losing not only from here but also from Mangalore, Roorkie.
