Two back to back accidents in Kumaon division of Uttarakhand on Sunday, one in Nainital and other in Pithoragarh district claiming 16 lives and 22 injured !

Uttarakhand seems to have become extremely accident prone with tragic accidents happening every day in and day out. The vehicles falling in deep gorges claiming several lives and severe injuries of passengers are tragic incidents taking place almost every day. There may be different reasons behind these accidents but one thing is absolutely clear that roads with pot holes, in bad condition, blind turns, etc are some of the reasons for these tragic accidents but one can’t deny the hard fact that those coming from plains being not well versed in driving on mountainous roads commit deadly accidents not being well versed with routes and the hills’ geographical situation including idea about roads. Just yesterday evening a deadly accident occurred in Nainital district when a bus of HARYANA tourists carrying 33 passengers fell into a deep gorge two hundred metres downwards after the driver lost control, killing seven on the spot and injuring twenty four, some grievously. The dead included five women, a man and a child. As if this, was not enough another deadly accident was witnessed in Pithoragarh district in Kumaon division when a huge debris obviously full of stones fell on the running vehicle carrying passengers killing all of them with the SDRF proving successful in retrieving the seven dead bodies. According to latest news the tragedy occurred on Sunday on Dharchula to Gunji Motor way when all of a sudden the huge quantum of debris containing heavy stones fell on the car literally burying them underneath. The State Disaster Management Authority team retrieved the dead bodies after great efforts from the debris. The dead bodies have been given to the bereaved family members of the deceased. There were in all nine persons travelling in the vehicle. The bodies of the remaining two are being traced and retrieved. All the dead were from Napalchu village of district Pithoragarh.
