Young social activist undergoes symbolic fast after a 7 year old girl dies for want of treatment in Odaar village of Deval block in Garhwal

Drawing inspiration from the good deeds of freedom fighter and revolutionary legend Sridev Suman on his 105 th birth anniversary who laid down his life at the age of mere 29 in Tehri jail against the barbaric police n the then King’s tyrranical rule by undertaking 86 days hunger strike while earlier being served food with grinded glass n sand etc, a young social activist Lusun Todariya during pandemic lockdown has started a days hunger strike indoors holding a playcard in his hands protesting against the pitiable and alleged non functional health services in Uttarakhand resulting in several deaths of innocent patients for want of treatment.

In a Facebook post on Monday social activist of Uttarakhand Lusun Todariya wrote in Hindi : Am sitting on hunger strike today in view of two incidents. First incident is : Yesterday on 24 th May, an innocent adolescent girl, merely 7 years’ old has died after badly suffering from illness due to non availability of treatment facilities hailing from Odaar village under Devaal block in Garhwal.

The health centre which is situated four kilometres away from the village is locked for several months n to reach on the other side of the road, there is no bridge, the reason being that the bridge got washed away in the June 2013 Kedarnath’s ecological catastrophe that claimed thousands of lives and led to collossal financial n loss of properties.

Now there is merely one trolley. It is being said that because of the trolley operator reaching there late the condition of the ill girl got further deteriorated. On reaching PHC Devaal, the innocent 7 year old girl was declared brought dead.

The second incident is that the BJP and Congress yesterday sat on Dharna against each other. Some are sitting on Dharna for “Budhi Shudhi” indication on Harish Rawat while others are undertaking a days hunger strike. ( Fast).

Both the parties were inflicting charges n counter charges against each other forgetting that it is because of 50,50 partnership of both the parties that the state is in a messy situation today after twenty years of misrule.

The state has suffered due to acute shortage of health facilities n today both the parties are shamelessly accusing each other making fool of the state’s inhabitants, especially during the Corona period that has claimed so many lives said the FB post of Lusun. He further added that today is the birth anniversary of legendary revolutionary Sridev Suman.

There is no point just commemorating his birthday. We have to get up and question the ruling parties n those who had ruled in the state during the last two decades appealed Lusun Todariya through his post. He urged them to get up and hold them accountable for the deteriorating health services in Uttarakhand and jeopardising them further instead of improving the health sector of the state.

Lusun Todariya questioned BJP and Congress as to what have they done for improving the health sector of the state during the last twenty years resulting in frequent deaths of innocent state inhabitants ?

Lusun Todariya is the son of leading journalist of Uttarakhand whose latest magazine Uttarakhand Aajkal was quite popular in the hilly state. He unfortunately breathed his last due to a massive cardiac arrest.
