“Chandra’s Surface Thermo Physical Experiment”, for the first time measures the temperature of the top soil around the Pole to understand the thermal behaviour of the moon reports ISRO

After successful landing of the Chandrayaan 3 at the Shiv Shakti point at Moon’s South Pole in 23 rd August setting the world record being the first country to do so, being the fourth member of the elitist group after United States, Russia, China having landed on moon, the daily developments on the moon after the Pragyan Rover ,emerging out of the Vikram lander are very heart warming, making 140 crore Indians proud of this ISRO outstanding achievement. On the fourth day after the landing at South Pole on the moon, the latest report furnished by ISRO reveals that the ChaSTE payload onboard Vikram Lander has for the first time observed the temperature variations of the lunar surface / near Surface at various depths , this being the first such profile for the lunar South Pole. According to the ISRO information on X earlier twitter : CHANDRAYAAN 3 MISSION : Here are the first observation from the Cha STE payload in board VIKRAM LANDER. – ChaSTE ( Chandra’s Surface Thermo Physical Experiment) measures the temperature profile of the Lunar Top Soil around the Pole , to understand the thermal behaviour of the moon’s surface. It has a temperature probe equipped with a controlled penetration mechanism capable of reaching a depth of 10 Centimetre beneath the surface. The probe is fitted with 10 individual temperature sensors. The presented graph illustrates the temperature variations of the lunar surface / near – surface at various depths, as, recorded during the probe’s penetration . This is the first such profile of the Lunar South Pole and the detailed observation are underway said the ISRO information on X.

Meanwhile, while the moral of the ISRO Scientists after this successful landing of CHANDRAYAAN 3 on the Moon’s southern surface is extremely high especially after the visit of prime minister to their space centre at Bengaluru to personally congratulate them, a slugfest has started between the Congress and BJP over the naming of the landing point and crashing point by PM as Shiva Shakti point and Tiranga point. The Congress leader Rashid Alvi has yesterday ridiculed these naming of the landing point and crashing points on Moon Sputh Pole while heartily welcoming the CHANDRAYAAN success saying that we don’t have the ownership right on the moon. How can we name them and the world would laugh at us. However, the vociferous BJP leader and spokesman Gaurav Bhatia strongly came out against Alvi and accused the Congress leader of hurting the Hindu sentiments by insulting the Hindu deity saying that if the Congress led UPA government can name a point after Jawahar Lal Nehru after Chandrayaan 1 st mission failed then why can’t we do so. The Congress leader Rashid Alvi had in a statement said that the world would laugh over PM’s naming of these two points as we don’t own the moon.
