ALAKNANDA RIVER’S LEVEL RISING POSING THREAT TO SHRINAGAR RESIDENTS! RED ALERT ISSUED

The excessive rains and, cloud burst incidents including landslides and overflooding of the already fast flowing rivers during monsoon have created havoc in different parts of Uttarakhand. Kotdwar township and its outskirts were the victim few days ago when flash floods entered all the houses with tremendous muck and silt and damaged a vast network of roads including electric cables on a wide scale leaving to power breakdown etc with schools closed and life brought to stand still. Kotdwar a starting entry point to Garhwal division has never witnessed such a massive damage and destruction due to heavy and continuous rains and cloud burst incidents with water flowing from every part of its locality and drains and rivulets literary overflowing with gushing water damaging houses and posing threat to people’s lives. Even in Yamkeshwar division wide cracks on roads , residential areas and fields have been witnessed as experienced in Joshimath, Karnprayag and even Badrinath areas which are being renovated this playing with the nature on a wide scale, demolishing the shops of the area and widening of roads, etc. In Satpuli and its surrounding areas too extensive damage was caused when the Nayar river overflowed die to extensive rains. According to a latest news, in Shrinagar Garhwal the smooth flowing Alaknanda river has taken a ” Raaudra”, fierce look as the river has swelled tremendously likely to sweep away everything with it. The gushing water of the river has accumulated so much and flowing with a fierce speed that the residents of Srinagar are afraid of serious consequences. In 2013 during Badrinath flash floods the Srinagar township was largely submerged in water with the ITI building completely damaged. On Monday the last “SAWAN KA SOMWAR”, the river ‘s level has reached up to Ankleshwar Temple with water entering its compound. In Chamoli, Rudraprayag too the heavy rain is going on resulting in the water level of fast and, expeditiously flowing river going up exponentially high. After the Alaknanda river witnessing its water level going up exponentially the authorities have asked people to remain indoors and not to go near the river at any cost. The meteorological department has already predicted of heavy rains on 15 th August and onwards issuing Red Alert . The people in Srinagar are immensely worried as they’re not only the excessive rains but also cloud bursts as if they take place in Himalayan areas, the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers get swelled posing threat to the people living on their banks. In Himachal Pradesh’s Manali area, recently people had watched video on social media as to how three, four storey hotels n other commercial and residential buildings came down like pack of cards under gushing river water when one of the dam released its accumulated water posing threat to people living on the banks of the flowing river. In Sonprayag, Rudraprayag too due to a massive landslide though 7 dead bodies have been recovered till yet about 19 persons in all , including the dead bodies recovered , were reported missing where the rescue operation is still going on. In Dhankhedi rivulet in Kumaon several people have died and several other casualties occurring in different parts of Uttarakhand by these monsoon deluges.
