Hundreds of activists demand closure of NTPC project and immediate resettlement and rehabilitation of Joshimath sufferers at DHARNA in JANTAR MANTAR

A DHARNA was held at JANTAR MANTAR on 4 th February in support of the demands of suffering Joshimath inhabitants demanding closure of NTPC Hydropower Project, Marwadi Badrinath Highway, immediate rehabilitation and resettlement of the suffering people, adequate financial compensation with adequate houses compatible to the current market rates etc.

The protest sit in n demonstration was attended by the representatives and activists of several socio political organisations who in one voice expressed their wholehearted solidarity with the suffering people of Joshimath urging the central and state governments to resolve all their transparent and genuine demands further unanimously emphasising with one voice to give up the anti people so called hydro power projects and unscientific anti environmental n ecological developmental activities in Uttarakhand with immediate effect, terming them as anti people, solely responsible for the massive subsidence of holy town Joshimath. Good number of speakers viz. Padma Shree Dr. Shekhar PATHAK, senior journalists and activists Charu Tiwari, Suresh Nautiyal, Sunil Negi, President, Uttarakhand Journalists Forum, Ramesh Ghildiyal, Comrade Purushottam Sharma, social activists Kusum Kandwal Bhatt, Roshni Chamoli, Deepika Nayal Deopa, Prema Dhoni, Balbir Singh, geologist, journalist Satyendra Rawat, movement activist Bhupendra Rawat, AAP national spokesperson Harish Awasthi, Vice President Uttarakhand Congress Dhirendra Pratap, theatre artist Khushal Singh Bisht, President of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha Ajay Bisht, AAP leader Brijmohan Upreti, etc spoke on the ocassion.

Many prominent personalities including retired IPS and former DGP Kerala K. S. Jangpangi participated in this one day Dharna. Good number of youths, students and women activists were present in this protest sit in holding placards in their hands and raising slogans demanding justice for Joshimath n its suffering people including their immediate resettlement and rehabilitation with adequate financial compensation.
