DCW ISSUES NOTICES TO CEOS OF FLIPKART AND AMAZON FOR SELLING ACID BANNED BY SUPREME COURT

The victim of the obnoxious acid attack in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar by three young boys one Sachin Arora, known to the victim, having developed break in relations three months ago who is under treatment in a Delhi hospital has suffered eight percent burn injuries.

The three culprits of this acid attack have been arrested within 12 hours of commission of the crime.

Meanwhile taking a very serious view of this obnoxious act, the Delhi Commission of Women chairperson Swati Maliwal has issued notices to the two online shopping companies Flipkart and Amazon who are directly responsible for the sale of Acid to these three culprits despite the fact that the the Supreme Court had banned its sale in 2013, though DCW chairperson says that it hasn’t been stopped but regulated.

She also accused the Delhi Police for this mis-happening to an extent saying that the DCW is, also issuing notice to them shortly.

Speaking to media while expressing her serious concern Swati Maliwal said that this is a shocking incident which unambiguously speaks of the fact that our SDMs concerned are not doing the necessary routine checks on the sale of Acid, the sale of which has not been stopped and dreaded crimes such as this usually occur.

She said that Acid is being sold in retail shops which is highly worrisome.

According to the notices issued to the two Shopping online firms Flipkart and Amazon responsible for selling hazardous Acid leading to this dreaded acid throwing incident on a 12 th class girl student in West Delhi – burnt 8% and undergoing treatment in a Delhi hospital, the DCW chairperson sought the following information at the earliest. The notice below is self explanatory.

Considering this incident as extremely serious DCW chairperson through this urgent notice has asked Flipkart and Amazon to submit the required information latest by 20.12.2022 keeping in view the gravity of the situation.

Both the notices have been issued to the CEOs of Flipkart well as Amazon.

It may be recalled that three boys, the main culprit being Sachin Arora had thrown acid on the face of a 12 year old student of West Delhi , Uttam Nagar, while she was returning home from school yesterday as he had the break up with the victim, three months ago.

All the three culprits namely Sachin Arora, Harshit and Veerendra were on motorbike. Two of the boys, were masked while throwing acid on her. The doctors are trying to access the extent of deep burn injuries in her eyes, face and neck and will be able to tell the exact position after 72 hours.

One of the culprits had left the phone with one of the friends to misguide the police. The injured acid attack girl is in Safdarjung hospital’s burn department.

According to National Crime Records Bureau there had been 32 cases of acid attacks between 2018 n 2021 and Supreme Court had ban its sale in 2013 in view of the spike in acid attack cases. Only those with licence could sell acid and the buyer has to submit his/ her ID proof giving the reason to buy it etc.
