Earthquake jolts experienced in Uttarakashi this morning measuring 4.5-6 on Richter Scale !
Earthquake tremors measuring 4.6 on the Richter Scale have been experienced in Uttar Kashi, Uttarakhand this morning compelling people to come of their houses. As per the latest reports this earthquake’s centre has, reportedly been 33 kilometres away from Uttarkashi at Chiyanisaud. According to news reports the tremors of this earthquake were also felt in several districts of Uttarakhand viz Dehradun, Tehri and Uttarkashi etc particularly in Garhwal region. These tremors were felt for merely one second or so but the residents were panicked and came out of their respective houses. Uttarakhand is a highly seismic state phone to earthquakes n other natural calamities with such jolts being experienced off n on. The location of this latest earthquake of 4.5 – 6 measurement on Richter scale was 17 kilometres ESE of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Kindly recall that in 1991 a high intensity earthquake 6.8 on the Richter scale had occurred in Uttarkashi resulting in the loss of 768 lives and colossal loss of properties n destruction of thousands of houses. The earthquake was on the main central thrust in Uttarkashi and Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand then with undivided Uttar Pradesh.
