High hopes from PM Awas Yojana in Uttarakhand in the era of rapid urbanization

Along with the whole country, the pace of urbanization in Uttarakhand has also increased rapidly in recent years. In the coming 20 years, this pace of urbanization is to increase further. In such a situation, providing a house to every urban household would be a big challenge. To face this challenge, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana can prove to be decisive. Under this scheme, affordable houses are being constructed rapidly in Uttarakhand. These affordable houses have been allotted to many people and many houses are ready or are being constructed.

The above was stated by all speakers in a seminar organized on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana on affordable housing at a hotel on Rajpur Road. The seminar was organized by the Urban Development Directorate – Govt. of Uttarakhand, PHD Chamber of Commerce Uttarakhand Chapter and SDC Foundation. State Urban Development Minister Premchand Agarwal was present as the chief guest of the program.

Key speakers included Secretary Housing SN Pandey and Director, Urban Development Directorate Navneet Pandey. In the seminar, Additional Director, Urban Development Directorate Ashok Pandey, Assistant Director Rajiv Pandey, UHUDA Joint Chief Administrator PC Dumka, HUDCO Regional Head Sanjay Bhargava, MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia, Social Development Expert of Dehradun Municipal Corporation Ramesh Chauhan, Chairman of Dineshpur, Lalkuan and Vikasnagar Municipal Bodies, Dineshpur, Doiwala, Dehradun, Vikasnagar, Chinyalisaur and Lalkua Municipal Bodies employees, officers, builders and beneficiaries also participated in the seminar. Along with this, representatives of PHD Chamber of Commerce, Directorate of Urban Development and NIUA were also present in the program.

State Urban Development Minister Premchand Agrawal said on this occasion that the state government is making constant efforts to provide housing facilities to the last rung person. He said that planning and use of technology is very important in housing construction. A roof is the right of every person. He said that out of 21 housing development schemes in the state, two have been completed and work on the rest is going on in full swing.

On this occasion, Chief Guest Premchand Agarwal honored Dineshpur and Lalkuan municipal bodies for doing better work. He congratulated Dineshpur on getting the first prize at the national level. Apart from this, the cabinet minister also honored ten beneficiaries. Premchand Agrawal appreciated the PHD Chamber of Commerce and SDC Foundation for organizing the event. He said that such programs should be organized from time to time. Urban Development Minister Premchand Agrawal was welcomed by Virendra Kalra, former President of PHD Chamber of Commerce Uttarakhand Chapter.

Director of Urban Development Directorate Navneet Pandey said that under PM Awas Yojana, a target has been set to build 66,000 houses in the state by December 2024. Out of these, 26,000 houses have been completed. Out of the four components of the scheme, the beneficiary led construction i.e. BLC and the affordable housing in partnership component i.e. AHP is extremely important.

Secretary Urban Development SN Pandey provided information about the progress of the housing schemes. He said that if all the stakeholders of the schemes work together, then the target of the scheme can be easily achieved.

PC Dumka, Joint Chief Administrator, UHUDA said that we want to move ahead in the state with the help of builders and developers. There are 21 affordable housing schemes in the state at different stages. Coordination is also being made with the bankers for the successful operation of the schemes. It is the responsibility of all of us to encourage the LIG and LMIG sectors as well.

Panel discussion was held in the second session of the programme. PC Dumka, HUDCO Regional Head Sanjay Bhargava, CBRI Roorkee Scientist Ashish Peepul, Dineshpur, Vikasnagar and Lalkua Municipal Bodies Chairman, Ramesh Chauhan, Municipal Corporation Dehradun Social Development Specialist, Manish of Windlass Builders and BLC beneficiary Anita Juyal shared their experiences. The program was conducted by Anoop Nautiyal of SDC Foundation and Vishal Kala, Regional Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce.
