16 year boy of 12 th class injured by a man eater in Pauri, Garhwal. Man eaters become a great threat to human lives in Ukhand
As we’ve been regularly reporting about the increasing attack of man eaters on human beings in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand there has been no respite to them, till yet, with the wild life n forest department becoming a mere spectator.
Just a day ago a man eater leopard again entered the house of a young boy in village Chettur of Nav Gaon Gram Sabha under Patti Banelsiun of Kot Block in Pauri Garhwal district and injured him on his head and neck.
The clever man eater entered the house of Shiv Charan Singh Bisht in the night hours and attacked his 16 year old son with the intent to drag him to the nearby bushes or jungle to fulfil his hunger.
On hearing the cries and shout of the boy, the parents raised an alarm reacting instantaneously resulting in the man eater leopard giving up the grip and running away in fear.
Luckily the boy with grievous injuries on the head and neck was taken to Pauri hospital where he is under treatment. The incident occurred at night ten o clock.
Studying in class tenth of Basantpur village, the injured boy who is under treatment at Pauri hospital is improving and the local lawmaker Rajkumar Pori met him and assured of all possible help n support.
Meanwhile, the people of the Gram Sabha Navmi and Chetur village including the entire Kot block are badly in fear not knowing when the man eater may attack them and their families, especially school going children.
It may be recalled that in the past too there had been several such invasion of the carnivores at Devpyayag n Vyas Chatti area killing a man and injuring another villager in two separate incidents.
In Maletha village area near Kirti Nagar, too a man eater had killed a women n several others with such dreaded incidents also taking place in Dugadda area and Lansdowne etc killing several men n women.
In Pithoragarh, Nainital and other districts of Kumaon region too several incidents of such man eater attacks and subsequent kills took place. In Akhodi village of Tehri Garhwal last week a man eater had killed a seven year old girl dragging her in bushes leaving behind her mutilated body, found by the neighbours and parents searching her for hours together.
The professional hunter Mr. Bhandari was hired by the wild life n forest department who had thereafter shot the man eater to the utter relief of the inhabitants of the area.
The obvious reasons for man eater human kills are many like rapid n extensive fires in Uttarakhand jungles, rapid construction near and inside jungles, especially on roadsides , the increasing chaos of traffic movement, extreme shortage of food for the carnivores due to vanishing of smaller animals inside jungles and domestic pets in villages due to massive exodus to cities n towns including drying up of natural water resources due to jungle fires etc. Apart from all this, the sound pollution is also one of the prime reasons for disturbing the peace of the forest inhabitants compelling them to move outside, near roadsides n villages for safety and then coming in direct confrontation with human beings making them their food in view of prevailing hunger n shortage of animals, their main food.
