Delhi govt urges BBMB to revoke its decision to stop water supply to Delhites from 24 th March to 25 th April

The Vice chairman of Delhi Jal Board and MLA Raghav Chadha has expressed his serious concern over the decision of the Bhakra Beas Management Board to stop the water of Ravi Beas river via Bhakra Nangal dam in view of the repair works to be carried out in Bhakra Hydel project from March 25 th to April 24 during the peak summer season when Delhi already confronts the acute water scarcity crisis.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Delhi lawmaker n Vice president Raghav Chadha while expressing his immense concern and anguish towards this issue said that the BBMB board has in its letter send to Delhi govt informed that the due to the repair works of the Nangal Hydel project to be carried out from March 24 th the water supply to the national capital will be stopped till 25 th April.

This has led to immense concern for the Delhi government as according to the BBMB letter, about 232 million gallons of water delivery every day will be stopped till a month thus adversely affecting the Delhi population during the peak summers as Bhakra Nangal water supply caters 25% present of the Delhites.

Delhi MLA and VP of DJB Raghav Chadha has appealed to the union and Haryana government to review their decision and revoke it at all costs as according to him there will be tremendous chaos in the peak summer season in Delhi which may further lead to law and order situation as well.

Addressing the press conference Raghav Chadha said that the Delhi Jal Board has on 19 th February written a strong letter to Bhakra Nangal Management Board urging to revoke its decision in the peak summer season to avert the crisis as 25% of the water supply will be affected adversely inviting TRAHIMAAM TRAHIMAAM LIKE situation in the national capital which is already reeling under acute water crisis, managed by Delhi govt efficiently during peak summers further creating a massive law and order situation.

While terming Delhi as a land locked city Raghav said that it surrounded by various states. We don’t have our separate or own water body. Delhi has to depend on four main sources of water supply augmentation. He added that the water collected from these four sources is further supplied to all the Delhi residents.

These four sources are: water of Yamuna river that comes from Haryana, second Ganga river that mainly comes from Uttar Pradesh, thirdly from Ravi Beas, and fourth from the ground water accumulation.

Explaining about the water crisis MLA Raghav Chadha said that during the peak summer season the demand increases tremendously taking maulti pronged dimensions and the Delhi Jal Board during these acute summers tried hard to find ways n means to augment water supply from all these four sources an enumerated by me, under CM Kejrival’s directions n efforts.

Now we have been given to understand that the central government is likely to stop twenty five percent of the water supply from Ravi Beas river via Nangal, Punjab to the national capital he added.

Expressing his concern he said the government is stopping 25% water due to the repairs in Nangal Hydro channel at such a time when water is needed the most.

That means if the Nangal Hydro channel is closed, twenty five percent water supply to Delhi will be stopped creating an all round choas he said. .We have received a letter from a senior officer of Haryana government in which he said from 25 th March to 24 th April during peak summers, the Naval hydro project will remain closed leading to 232 million gallons per day water supply being stopped to Delhi for complete one month. This means that for one month about 25% water supply will be decreased during the peak summers to Delhi out of the total share adversely affecting the water supply to Delhites.

Raghav Chadha catagorically said that if this 232 MGD water supply per day is stopped during the peak summers when Delhi always reels’ under acute water supply crisis, till now managed by DJB, Delhites will literally be becoming thirsty resulting in a THRAHI THRAHI situation IN DELHI. A serious n major law n order situation will be created in Delhi. A massive water crisis situation may erupt resulting in a huge law n order crisis as well he asserted. This water supply from Nangal Ravi Beas river to Delhi comes under the jurisdiction of the Hon’ble supreme court order and a memorandum of understanding. The Bhakra Beas Management Board is the authority that is to stop this water supply of 232 million gallons per day thus affecting the 25% water supply to Delhi n creating major chaos in the national capital especially during peak summers for a month. in a tweet Raghav Chadha wrote : it has been written in the memorandum of understanding 1981 and in the judgement documents of supreme court that Delhi should get 232 millions gallons worth of daily water. The decision of the central government’s body BBMB will lead to acute water crisis tweeted MLA Raghav Chadha who is also the vice chairman of Delhi Jal Boatd.
