Maneater that killed a seven year old girl on Saturday shot dead by a professional hunter Gambir Singh in Tehri Garhwal

There is a good news for the terror stricken people of Ghansiyali and its surrounding villages who were compelled to remain indoors especially after a man eater brutally killed a seven year old girl of Akhodi village on Saturday after clandestinely dragging her away from a house compound. The man eater has been killed by professional hunter on Monday late evening. After acknowledging the news of the man eater being shot at, the people of Bhilangana valley who had demanded either capturing of the predator or killing it, have heaved an immense sigh of relief.

The terror of the man eater was so much that in the evening from 6.00 PM onwards the villagers were constrained to remain indoors. It may be recalled that on Saturday, the man eater leopard ( Guldaar) on human prowl picked up the seven year old girl from her house compound. Since there was no electricity in Akhodi area of Bhilangana block, with pitch dark around, the man eater took advantage of the situation and clandestinely picked the seven year old girl whose highly mutilated dead body was found in the nearby bushes by the professional shooters and the forest department, leading to the family going in shock and trauma and the villagers badly terror stricken. The people of the area demanded hiring of professional shooters immediately. As a result the renowned professional shooter Gambhir Singh Bhandari and his team was deputed on the job, who after three days of constant vigil finally succeeded in trapping and killing the man eater to the great relief of the inhabitants of Bilangana Valley. It may be recalled that coincidentally on 19 th April 1955, a great hunter, conservationist, author and tracker who killed the man eater of Rudraprayag, Champawat and several other areas of Garhwal and Kumain region died in Kenya, where he was leading his retired life.

Today is his death anniversary. He had killed about 90 the man eaters of Garhwal n Kumaon region who killed about 1200 people, in all. The Rudraprayag man eater who was killed in 1926 by Colonel Jim Corbett when called by the then British collector of Garhwal, had killed about 126 persons, including children, women, youths n senior citizens. The Champawat man eaters had killed 426 people.
