8.8 measuring earthquake on Richter scale hit Russia

A powerful earthquake measuring 8.8 on Richter scale creating tremendous panic among the people of the far eastern Kamchatka peninsula has resulted in Sunami waves going as high as ten to thirteen feet ( in Kamchatka) hitting a city in Hokaiddo,Northern Japan with good number of the people being injured including expectations of strong aftershocks as reported by the Russian newsagency TASS.
According to the latest news pouring in three Sunami waves badly impacted the Russian Poet town of Severo Kurilsk, where extensive damage of port infrastructure was witnessed including pulling out of several moored ships out into the straits.

According to the United States Geological Survey reports, the earthquake was was not much deeper but at the depth of 19.3 kilometres centering around the area of 80 miles in Russia’s Kamachatka along the coast of Avacha bay.

Meanwhile Rawalerts wrote on X immediately after the earthquake with a video : Watch as footage captures the moment the powerful 8.0 earthquake was detected by seismic sensors in Russia, with alarms blaring across monitoring stations. In response, the Tsunami Warning Center has issued an alert for Russia’s Far East, while Hawaii have been placed under a tsunami watch as a precaution. Additionally, a tsunami advisory has been issued for parts of Japan and Alaska, warning of potential coastal impacts.

The American authorities have also issued a tsunami advisory for areas that include Alaska.

In Japan, the weather agency upgraded its tsunami warning, saying waves of up to three metres (9.8 feet) were expected. The waves were expected to hit between 10:00 am and 11:30 am (0100-0230 GMT) along Japan’s Pacific coast, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the panic was so tremedous in Russia , Japan and in some parts of US that people were badly terrified having climbed the house roofs or come out in panic on grounds in the open.
