68 year old ill person lifted on temporary open palanquin type arrangement and taken to hospital covering 23 kilometres in Champawat

Despite Uttarakhand becoming a separate state having nine chief ministers during the last 24 years with the fiscal deficit of the state finances allegedly crossing Rs. 68 thousand crores, more than its annual budget , several villages of the Himalayan state despite tall claims are still without roads with news of critical ill patients, men and women brought on make shift palanquin to district hospitals after ferrying the patient on shoulders by four persons n several others accompanying them for several hours cross crossing the temporary, uneven pathways crossing several forests to reach the connecting roads etc.

In the past, news of several women especially those pregnant were seen delivering their babies in the way or women meeting the sad end for not given timely n adequate medical treatment.

According to a latest news a senior citizen who was suffering from serious ailment living 23 kilometres away from Champawat district headquarter hailing from Gram Panchayat Bora had to be lifted on make shift temporary wooden chair fitted on two strong wood logs by six persons covering a distance of five kilometres on uneven path to reach to the connected main road and thereafter, after a long waited brought to hospital at Champawat.

According to the news, a resident of Panchayat Bhandari Bora Raunkunwar aged 68 years was ill for the last three days and not recovering was taken to the connecting road covering challenging jungle’s uneven path by 14 persons taking five hours yesterday early morning.

They were changing the shoulders to lift the patient on the way, finally reaching the district hospital after immense efforts.

The villagers tied a plastic chair inbetween the two wooden logs and gave shoulder all the way covering five kilometres of uneven path, alternatuvely.

According to Village head Mahesh Singh Kunwar they have sent ample number of representations to the concerned authorities to built a road connecting their village but of no avail.

They have to carry the pregnant women, patients suffering from various ailments on their shoulders on make shift temporary arrangements as done in the present case tying a chair in between the wooden logs and then carrying them covering a distance of more than five kilometres to reach the connecting road and then covering 28 kilometres to reach the hospital at Champawat. There is tremendous risk in such cases as in the absence of treatment some of them meet the sad end as well said the village head.
