After a woman died due to maneater attack, students carrying sickle and sticks while going to school in groups in Kumaon making noise

Some of the Uttarakhand’s areas have become so badly and vigorously maneater leopard prone that now school going children and their teachers are going to school and returning back home in groups making noises and holding sticks and sickle in their hands regularly as safeguards from the carnivores/ predators. This was never the case earlier. Today, in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal and Kumaon divisions the horrific attacks leading to fatalities of women, children and senior citizens in particular by maneaters and even wild bears have become so common and frequent that the forest and wild life departments are of no consequence finding them completely helpless. In Garhwal’s Pauri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri and Uttarkashi districts and Kumaon division’s Nageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Nainital districts the maneater attacks have created havoc with the predators even entering houses and making human beings their easy prey. The women going to agricultural fields to collect fodder for the cattles and school going children are the most vulnerable targets. According to the latest news after a woman falling prey to a maneater leopard’s attack in Mankot on 7 th January the students of the primary and middle school of Chaati amd Mankot are going to schools with their back pages in groups holding sticks and sickle in their hands to counter any attempt of the maneater on the way. The students and teachers are badly terrified since the death of a woman on 7 th January by a dreaded maneater. Though the forest department is doing its best to capture the maneater but the children and teachers are least confident knowing very well that now in they will have to safeguard their own selves than depending on the forest or wild life Department. The Pantqueiraali school is situated in the midst of the cohesive jungle and in view of no road they have to commute on foot daily fearing attack from the maneaters. Since the walking paths are marrow and jungle around especially after the fear of the maneater the children have been instructed to reach the school in groups holding sikle, sticks with them for safety and security from the carnivores. The children have been clearly instructed to reach the school and return back home with sikle amd lathis in their hands making noises in groups to keep the maneaters away.
