After cancellation of 1000 INDIGO flights government fixed new fares based on distance limits

After the cancellation of nearly one thousand flights yesterday and subsequently increasing the air tickets prices all of a sudden, putting thousands of passengers in jeopardy with all the newspapers and news channels highlighting this issue prominently as banner news, the union government has adopted an extremely strict posture by fixing the maximum limits on the prices of tickets scheduling the distance. This important decision has been taken by the union civil aviation ministry in view of the monopoly of the private airlines increasing the rice if air fares on their whims and fancies. According to the latest news keeping in view the ongoing Indigo crisis and increase in the prices of air fares the union Government has fixed the maximum distant limit to decide the fate structure. This decision has been informally taken from 6 th December, 2025. In the new fares the airport development fees and passenger service fees and the tax have not been included. However, this formula / normal would not be applicable on business class passengers and the flights operating under the UDAN Scheme. According to the union civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu the flights are normalising as usual constantly. He said that a committee has been former to look into the grievances of the airlines aswell as to analyse the the regulations and scheduling of the rules etc. The new prices are as follows:

500–1000 km—– —– ₹12,000
1000–1500 km.— —- ₹15,000
More than 1500 km.—– ₹18,000
IndiGo has announced that cancellation charges will be completely waived on all tickets for travel between December 5, 2025 and December 15, 2025.
IndiGo also stated that no additional fees will be charged for rescheduling, and refunds will be automatically credited back to passengers’ original payment method. Passengers will not need to take any additional action for this process.
Although the situation is improving in some areas, flight cancellations continue across the country. More than 1,000 flights were grounded on Friday, up from 550 the previous day.
Delhi is showing improvement, but other airports like Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad are still facing problems, with 9 and 19 flights cancelled respectively.
