AJAY TAMTA, NHLML AND SATPAL MAHARAJ IN CM UTTARAKHAND ‘S PRESENCE SIGN AN MOU FOR ROPEWAYS IN UTTARAKHAND

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways sign MOU with NHLML and Uttarakhand government for Badrinath Kedarnath Ropeways project in Uttarakhand

The Ministry of transport and National Highway authority of India and government of Uttarakhand today signed an MOU regarding construction of Ropeways in Uttarakhand with (NHLML) National Highways Logistics Management Limited. The MOU was signed in the presence of the Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami by the union state Transport and Highways minister Ajay Tamta and Uttarakhand Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj in the state capital, Dehradun. In future all the construction of Ropeways related projects in Uttarakhand will be executed with the cooperation, monitoring of Ministry of Transport asper the understanding reached out with NHLML. According to the union minister of state for Transport and National Highways Ajay Tamta under this agreement made under the Parvatmala project, the LoA will soon be provided for ropeway development in Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib and the work on both these projects will be started within a maximum of 6 months. He added that this ropeway project being done in a very inaccessible terrain is one of the longest ropeway projects in the world. The height of Kedarnath is 12,000 feet above sea level and the height of Hemkund is 15,000 feet. The minister said that every year, around 32 lakh devotees will be able to travel by Kedarnath ropeway and around 25 lakh devotees will be able to travel by Hemkund ropeway.
Disclosing about the income generation from these Ropeways and their possible use the minister Ajay Tamta said that 90% of the funds raised from these two ropeway projects costing over ₹6800 crores will be spent on the development of tourism, transportation and mobility in the state of Uttarakhand.
Terming this MOU as historic the state minister said that this agreement is historic in itself and will prove to be unprecedented for the people of Uttarakhand and the tourists coming here.

Elaborating further the minister said that along with giving new heights to religious pilgrimage, this agreement will pave the way for new opportunities in the field of tourism, employment, environmental protection and infrastructure in the state and will further strengthen the religious and cultural heritage of Devbhoomi.

Senior officials of MoRTH, National Highways Authority of India – NHAI and NHLML and the state government were present on the occasion.
