2020 Olympics Bronze winner who backed women wrestlers tooth and nail criticizes BJP for giving ticket to the son of former WFI president
The 2020 prestigious Tokyo Olympics Medal winner, who had been a main force at Jantar Mantar last year wholeheartedly backing the protesting women wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and several others sitting in protest dharna at Jantar Mantar demanding lodging of an FIR and subsequent termination of the sitting MP from Kaiserganj from the post of presidentship of Wrestling Federation of India who was accused of alleged assault of seven women wrestlers on different occasions.
The women wrestlers at Jantar Mantar were lathi-charged and arrested but no action whatsoever has been taken against him till date as far as his detention or arrest punishment was concerned.
While strongly criticizing the decision of the ruling political dispensation to give ticket to the son of the Kaiserganj MP and former WFI president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, also known as Bahubali MP, international wrestler and Olympic medal winner Bajrang Punia has said through a brief post on social media platform X in Hindi, translated English version of which is : The BJP considers itself the biggest party in the world but out of its lakhs of workers, it gave ticket to Brijbhushan’s son, that too when BJP is surrounded by the issue of Prajwal Revanna. During the agitations in Punjab and Haryana, people here raise a slogan, “Don’t expect anything from governments, take care of yourself.” It is the misfortune of the country that daughters who win medals will be dragged on the streets and the son of the person who sexually exploits them will be honored by giving him a ticket.
Meanwhile another Woman international wrestler having been the recipient of prestigious Padmashri and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award including first woman wrestler to win medal in Olympics and other championships Sakshi Malik who fought for justice with other wimen wrestlers till the end, through her emotional post wrote in Hindi on X : The daughters of the country have lost. Brijbhushan has won. We had put our career at risk. Slept on roads under the scorching sun and confronting rains for several days. Brijbhushan Sharan Singh has not been arrested till date. We weren’t demanding anything except justice. Leave arresting him, today you have broken the courage of millions of the daughters of the country by giving ticket to his son. The ticket going in a single family has raised a vital question as to why the government has vowed in front of a man. Want only votes in the name of Lord Rama. What about the path shown by Him ( Lord Rama) wrote anguished Sakshi Malik on her social media handle X. The election of Kaiserganj is on May 20. It may be recalled that Brijbhushan Sharan Singh had been the president of WFI from 2012 till last year and MP Lok Sabha from Kaiserganj where his writ runs large for six terms in sequel , five times in BJP ticket and once in Samajwadi party banner.
