190 MPs sign notices served in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the removal of the CEC Gyanesh Kumar

After the no confidence motion against the speaker got defeated in the Lok Sabha yesterday , though it was already expected, the India National Developmental Inclusive Alliance members of parliament in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha today submitted another two notices in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively signed by 130 and 60 MPs of lower and upper house demanding removal of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as CEC as according to them he is functioning on the dictates of the ruling political dispensation at the centre and has been granted immunity under section 16, of the chief election commissioners ( Appointments Condition of service and terms of office Act 2023 ).
Under this act the Election commissioners have been granted immunity from legal proceedings for actions in their official capacity.
The Supreme Court is currently though , examining this blanket immunity after a petition is filed in the apex court.
The INDIA MPs have through the ten page detailed notice levelled several charges against the CEC pertaining to partisanship and discriminatory conduct while in office including intentional obstruction of investigation in the electoral frauds etc. including mass disenfranchisement.
They have especially accused the CEC for being extremely partisan and helpful to the ruling BJP in the process of Special Intensive Revision which according to them is an exercise to wholly help the saffron party. In this context the INDIA MPs have cited the instances of open favouritism in SIR to BJP in Bihar, West Bengal and other states where the Special Intensive Revision has been done or is in progress. This is the first attempt by the opposition MPs for impeachment against the sitting CEC for favouring the ruling political dispensation and not resolving the opposition issues , complaints and objections on vote frauds etc.
It may be recalled that the leader of the opposition has in the past few months ago raised several instances of electoral frauds in several states with credible evidences highlighted extensively by the media urging the CEC to intervene and resolve their grievances including in matters of SIR in Bihar, Bengal and several other states where lakhs of genuine voters names were deleted.
Despite the LOP’s objections and presentation of credible evidence publicly, the CEC has not done anything credible to set right the situation and always allegedly favouring the ruling party, thus compelling the INDIA MPs to submit notices in both the houses of Parliament. The initiative in this regard has been taken by the TMC and the vociferous chief minister Mamata Bannerjee.
