17 th November is great soul, patriotic fighter who single handedly killed three hundred PLA soldiers, Jaswant Singh Rawat’s birth anniversary

POSTHUMOUSLY – recipient of the second highest award for bravery – The Mahavir Chakra, pride of the nation and ofcourse Uttarakhand , honorary captain even after martyrdom who had single handedly killed three hundred Chinese soldiers in the war of Nurarang in Indo Sino War 1962 Rifleman then, now honorary captain JASWANT SINGH RAWAT is remembered on 17 th October every year On his death anniversary.

As a mark of reverence to this great soul and patriotic fighter who martyred himself at the mere age of twenty ONE killing three hundred Chinese soldiers, honorary Captain Jaswant Singh Rawat is remembered on 17 th November when hundreds of the army men of Garhwal Rifles and his close relatives including the villagers collect at his ancestral village Baryun in Pauri Garhwal and pray in a temple including take out Baba Jaswant Singh’s Doli and offer prayers to this pious Soul.

Baba Jaswant Singh Rawat for the villagers and armymen Garhwal Rifles is a deity and his temple is also situated at the post in Tawang Arunachal Pradesh where everyday his boots are polished, uniform pressed, promoted whenever due and incense offered as a mark of respect.

In his village Baryun , every year on his birth and death anniversary prayers are offered , the Garhwal Rifles armymen assemble in his village in full uniform and pay respects to this great soul and commemorate his bravery.

Kindly recall : The bravery of Jaswant Rawat was honored by naming the army post held by him as the “Jaswant Garh post” where he fended off the People’s Liberation Army, and Jaswant Garh War Memorial was built at the post. Memorial at the army post lies 52 km southeast of Tawang & north of Sela Tunnel on NH-13 Trans-Arunachal Highway’s Dirang-Tawang section.

Additionally, Rawat has received several posthumous promotions.

Sela, who died helping Jaswant was honored by naming the Sela Pass, Sela Tunnel and Sela Lake in her name. Nuranang Falls was named after Nura.

4th Garhwal Rifles was later awarded the Battle Honour Nuranang, the only battle honor awarded to an army unit during the ongoing war. Salutes to this great soldier and a pride of the nation and Uttarakhand.
