15 dead in a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station

A stampede like situation happened at the New Delhi Railway station killing fifteen passengers who had allegedly come to the railway station to board trains heading for Prayagraj, Mahakumbh at 9.55 PM.

There are reports of ten injured , some grievously including few children and women.

According to some sources when Prayagraj express was standing at platform no. 14, lots of passengers were present at platform. Swatantra senani express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani were delayed and passenger of these trains were also present at platform no.12,13 and 14.

As per CMI every hours 1500 general tickets were sold by railways. That’s why the crowd became uncontrollable and stampede occured.

There was stampede at platform no. 14 and near escalator near platform no. 16.

The authorities rushed four fire tenders at the affected sites soon after this stampede that took place at 9.55 PM as a result of uncontrollable patients rushing towards platforms number 14 and 15.

Previously reports revealed about fifteen injuries but later on it was said that they are dead with information of ten injured. The dead also included children and women.

These 15 brutal tragedies remind of the massive stampede at Prayagaraj Mahakumbh where officially thirty people were reported dead and several other injured, some grievously.

Hundreds of slippers were seen on the escalators in the videos posted in social media reminiscent of the Prayagaraj, Mahakumbh tragedy.

The prime minister Narendra Modi expressed his distressed at the tragedy. He wrote on X : Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those who have been affected by this stampede.

The former chief minister of Delhi came down heavily on the UP and the central government over this tragic incident expressing her serious concern writing on X : Such an incident with the devotees going for Maha Kumbh is very sad. Neither the central government nor the UP government is concerned about the safety of the people. There are no arrangements in Prayagraj nor are there any concrete traffic arrangements for the devotees coming from different states of the country. I request the Railway Department to provide help to the people as soon as possible said Atishi.

The Delhi LG Vinay Saxena wrote on X : There has been an unfortunate incident at New Delhi Railway Station. Have spoken to Chief Secretary & Police Commissioner and asked them to address the situation. CS has been asked to deploy relief personnel. Have instructed CS & CP to be at the site and take control of relief measures. I am constantly monitoring operations.

The union Home minister Amit Shah said through X said that he spoke to Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnav ji and other concerned officials regarding the accident at New Delhi Railway Station. He also spoke to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and Delhi Police Commissioner and instructed to provide all possible help to everyone. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. The injured are being given all possible treatment. I wish them a speedy recovery said Amit Shah in X.

The Railway minister Ashnavi Vaishnav expressed his deepest condolences over the casualties and wrote on X : Deeply saddened by the unfortunate stampede that occurred at New Delhi Railway Station. My prayers are with all those who have lost their loved ones. The entire team is working to assist all those who have been affected by this tragic incident.

He assured that the situation is under control at New Delhi railway station (NDLS)as the Delhi Police and RPF reached the spot. Injured taken to hospital. Special trains being run to evacuate sudden rush claimed the railway minister.

The injured have been ferried to LNJP hospital and dead body to the hospital mortuary.
