INDIAN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENTAL INCLUSIVE ALLIANCE PROTEST IN PARLIAMENT AGAINST THE NEW BILL REPLACING MGNREGA

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance constituents’ Members of Parliament hailing from various non BJP opposition parties led by Sonia Gandhi and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge boycotted both the houses of parliament and held a protest demonstrations holding a huge banner of Mahatma Gandhi REGA and good number of banners opposing the bills introduced by the government in parliament to change the name of MNREGA etc.

The protesting members of parliament at the Parliament House precincts were raising anto government slogans against the new bill. The Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge strongly opposed and condemned the new bill replacing MNREGA saying that this is not just about renaming the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act but is BIP-RSS conspiracy to end MGNREGA. Erasing Gandhi’s name on the centenary of the Sangh shows how hollow and
hypocritical those are who, like Modiji, offer flowers to Bapu on foreign soil.
The government that recoils from the
rights of the poor is the one that attacks
MGNREGA.
The Congress Party will strongly oppose
in Parliament and on the streets any such
decision of this arrogant regime that is
against the poor and workers.
We will not allow the rights of crores of poor people, laborers, and workers to be snatched away by those in power said Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge.
The Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi while speaking to the media strongly condemned the NDA government saying that this is the anti poor government which is gradually trying to close this scheme which was the great source of sustenance to the poor of the country even during the Covid times. She said that the NDA government is putting the entire financial weight on the state governments who are not financially viable enough to pay for this scheme which will ultimately be closed thus depriving the poorest of the poor of the country of MNREGA that guaranteed them minimum three months employment in a Year. She said : By bringing a bill against MGNREGA, the Modi government wants to strip millions of laborers of their legal right to employment. This scheme is a lifeline for the country’s poorest people, which they are about to end. We will oppose this most strongly tooth and nail Priyaka Gandhi Vadra assured the countrymen.
The leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi came down heavily on prime minister Narendra Modi for replacing MNREGA expressing his views in detail condemning the new bill. He wrote on X : Modi ji has a deep dislike for two things – the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and the rights of the poor.
MGNREGA is the living embodiment of Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Gram Swaraj. It has been a lifeline for millions of rural Indians and proved to be a crucial economic safety net during the COVID pandemic.
Yet, this scheme has always unsettled PM Modi. For the past ten years, his government has systematically tried to weaken it. Today, he is determined to erase MGNREGA altogether.
MGNREGA was built on three fundamental principles:
1. Right to employment – anyone who demands work must be provided employment
2. Autonomy for villages to decide their own development works
3. Full wage support by the Central Government and 75% of material costs
Now, Modi ji wants to transform MGNREGA into a tool of centralised control:
1. Budgets, schemes, and rules will be dictated by the Centre
2. States will be forced to bear 40% of the costs
3. Once funds run out, or during harvest season, workers will be denied employment for months
This new bill is a direct insult to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. After destroying the future of India’s youth through massive unemployment, the Modi Government is now targeting the secure livelihood of poor rural families.
From Sadak to Sansad, we will oppose this anti-people bill.
