Renowned bollywood singer Jubin Nautiyal’s Father Ram Sharan Nautiyal Returns to Congress after Quitting BJP. Setback to BJP when state elections are round the corner

New Delhi, 19 Oct 2026:

In a major political development ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly polls, former BJP leader and father of Bollywood playback star Jubin Nautiyal, Ram Sharan Nautiyal, joined the Congress today at the AICC Headquarters in New Delhi.

He was welcomed into the party by senior Congress leader, former Union Minister and AICC In-charge of Uttarakhand Kumari Selja, Uttarakhand Congress President Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of Opposition in Uttarakhand Assembly Yashpal Arya.

Nautiyal’s switch comes just days after he rebelled from the saffron party and resigned from BJP alleging humiliation and lack of respect.

“Our old associate Ram Sharan Nautiyal felt stifled within the BJP. He became disillusioned with the environment and the way things functioned there. He is now rejoining the Congress party. I welcome him home,” said Kumari Selja.

Ram Sharan Nautiyal has an old association with Congress. He started his political career from Congress and served as Vice President and General Secretary of State Congress Committee and as Chairman of Dehradun District Panchayat. In 2014, he left Congress to join BJP, about 12 years ago.

In 2022, BJP fielded him from Chakrata Assembly seat – the stronghold of Jaunsar-Bawar tribal region – against Congress veteran Pritam Singh. He lost by over 9,000 votes.

Explaining his resignation from BJP earlier this month, Nautiyal said: _”Where there is no discipline and where senior leaders support those who violate discipline, or where there is no respect, one simply shouldn’t stay where there is outright humiliation.”

He had also created a brief controversy after BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt claimed his resignation was not received. Nautiyal clarified he had sent it through his stenographer and later via email.

Congress leaders said his return will strengthen the party in Garhwal, especially in Dehradun and Jaunsar-Bawar region.

The induction is being seen as start of a series of joinings in Uttarakhand Congress ahead of elections.
